Module 2: Your First 90 Days As A Manager

A great manager understands that they’ll never have the answer to everything and that humility and self-awareness are key to success.

New managers must recognise that learning is a lifelong process, that you should constantly seek new knowledge to improve your skills and management style, and always be open to feedback.

When we travel on aeroplanes, the safety announcement always tells us to “put your own oxygen mask on first, before attempting to help those around you.”

Similarly, as a manager, in order to support your team and everyone around you, you need to start with yourself.

The good news is, you're here taking this course, so you already understand the importance of learning how you can get better as a manager.

By learning more about yourself, your own strengths and development areas, and the impact that your behaviour can have on others, you can start to understand when to double down on some of the traits that come naturally to you, and which areas you need to develop.

In the next tab, we'll provide you with a free assessment that you can take to better understand your own strengths as a manager, and where you need to develop the most.

How do you know if you're a great manager and what areas you should be working on?

We've created a free assessment so you can find out...

By spending just five minutes taking our assessment, you can discover your strengths and areas for growth in the 12 key management skills that we cover in this course. Once you've completed the assessment, we'll send you a personalised report that will provide valuable feedback to help you as a new manager.

So, what are you waiting for?

Now what?

Your first 90 days as a manager are a great opportunity for you to ask lots of questions and make an impression that will set you up for success for the rest of your time in your new role.

Before we cover the 12 skills in the ACT framework that are critical to your long-term success as a new manager, there are some steps you should take in your first few months to establish yourself, understand your new environment, and to build trust with your team.

The three steps to follow in your first 90 days as a new manager are:

  • Step 1: Listen and learn
  • Step 2: Plan your strategy
  • Step 3: Accelerate your progress

Let’s take a look at each of these in turn in the video on the next tab.
